I found this interesting video about the construction of Hong Kong's International Airport. Check it out!

Hong Kong and Macau

Here are my photos from Hong Kong, one of my favorite places in China. Hong Kong is a vibrant city that has been heavily influenced by the British for centuries. It's the perfect blend of Eastern and Western Cultures.

A quick summary of the trip's highlights:

1. We planned and attempted to film our very own music video to JT's new song, "Suit and Tie." The video would have featured us getting all glammed up for a night of fun in Macau. We had every little detail planned out and timed to the music- we even made up a dance for the chorus. However, we ran out of time to film, and the only real scene we captured involved Derek walking on the beach wearing a tie, but no suit. Maybe someday our creative genius will be realized...

2. We met a fellow boilermaker at the camp site! This woman graduated from Purdue in 1995 and lived in Indianapolis for most of her adult life. Now her husband works for Cathay Pacific, and they live in Hong Kong! Who would have thought that I would have met another Indiana native on a remote beach in a foreign city on the other side of the world??

3. The Mcdonald's in Hong Kong serves a McCurry burger. 'Nuff said.

4. We spent the night at the Venetian in Macau for a fun night of gambling! The Venetian is a hotel/casino/shopping mall that currently holds the record for being the largest building by floor area in China. The interior is decorated to look like the streets of Venice- and yes, there are canals and gondola rides inside the building. The building was so beautiful that it almost distracted me from my financial woes when gambling turned out to be a rather disappointing venture (for my wallet, that is).

5. As we were walking in a hallway connecting two casinos, we saw some photos of the "Stars of the Cotai Strip." They are Macau's famous visitors and high rollers. Mostly, they were pictures of a bunch of Asian people we didn't recognize... oh, and George Foreman. Why on earth is your photo (the only non-Chinese photo) hanging on a wall in CHINA, George?? And WHY are you frequenting the Cotai Strip? So many unanswered questions.

To see everything else we did, take a look a the collages below. (I'm not sure I like this method of displaying photos, because there is no way to show descriptions. But I do think it looks nicer. PLEASE give me feedback!)

Below is a collage that features some of the city's impressive architecture. None of these photos have people, they just contain buildings and streets from Hong Kong, Kowloon, and Macau.

Yunnan Province

Over spring break, I went to Yunnan Province in West China! Those 8 days consisted of train rides, bus rides, and plane rides; hiking up and down mountains, horseback riding, and biking; and learning more about Chinese and Tibetan culture. We made it back to Minhang Campus two days ago (after spending the night in the airport) , and I'm still exhausted!
